If you make them correctly, there’s a chance they swell up beautifully. These Homemade Pitta Breads are so soft and taste spectacular! A stand mixer can come in very handy for this recipe, but you can also just use your hands to make it.

Homemade Pitta Bread

  1. Into a big bowl/mixing bowl add lukewarm water, yeast and your sweetener. Mix and let rest for 5 minutes.

  2. Now add the flours, salt and olive oil. Now mix everything thoroughly together until it comes together into a ball. If you want you can knead it manually for a couple of minutes on a surface sprinkled with some flour or with a stand mixer.

    Place it into an oiled bowl, cover it, and allow resting until doubled, about an hour.

  3. Gently deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured work surface. Divide it into 9 equal pieces, shape each piece into a ball and roll each ball into a circle, bout 1/2 cm/1/4 inch thick.

  4. Preheat the oven to 230C/450F. Bake for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the pitas balloon fully.
